Music in the Gardens 2017

On behalf of the trustees of the Friends of Old Durham Gardens, I would like to thank you all for your fantastic efforts in preparing for and delivering this year’s Music in the Gardens event which, we all agreed, was a great success.  The warm weather was just right for the event and attendance at the event was excellent with over 600 coming throughout the afternoon . The audience and the groups seemed to enjoy it and once again we spread the word about the jewel of Old Durham Gardens so that more people can enjoy the gardens in the future – after all, this is why we do it.
Photos of the event are available on our Facebook page.

Music in the Gardens (2016)

Hello everyone,
We are holding our annual Music In The Gardens fund raising event on Sunday the 11th September 1.00 to 5.00pm, which is the final Heritage Open Day this year.  This event will be similar to the very successful event held last year.
Entrance is free (donations are welcomed), there are now six groups featuring Appalachian, classical, jazz, folk, popular, blues and baroque/renaissance music.
Some refreshments are provided from about 12.30 including hot and cold drinks and home baking with savoury and sweet options.  A few chairs are provided, however please bring a rug and/or chairs if you want to.  You may come and go as you please during the event.  A permanent toilet is now provided at the gardens as is an electricity supply!
For the event there is only disabled parking at the gardens.  Other parking is available at the University Graham Sports Centre at Maiden Castle which is now approximately a 10 minute signposted walk away as the bridge over Old Durham beck is still closed following 2012’s heavy rain.  From the centre of Durham, the gardens are a 15-20 minute walk on the South bank i.e. the cricket ground side past Durham Amateur Rowing Club, through the trees, crossing the bridge at the Maiden Castle sports ground.
If you do park at Maiden Castle, please note that Durham University are now controlling car parking there and YOU WILL NEED TO REGISER YOUR CAR AT THE SPORTS CENTRE RECEPTION after arrival there.
For your information, the walled gardens will be open from 10.00am to 4.00pm on two of the four Heritage Open Days this year i.e. Saturday 10th September and Sunday 11th September. More information on the Heritage Open Days can be found at:  http://www.durham.gov.uk/heritageopendays
We look forward to seeing you at the gardens as we have planned some good weather for the event!

AGM

Our AGM is coming up soon on 21st April, 6.30 – 8.30pm. It will be held in County Hall, Committee Room 1B. After a short meeting, there will be a presentation and display on progress in the gardens and an opportunity to chat informally with the trustees. All welcome.
